Slideshow, 1986

The first of several variations of musical paintings that I experimented with in the 1980s and 1990s.  In Slideshow, which was performed 1 time only at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I constructed to optical sensors, one for each hand, and used them to scan this and other images that were rear-projected onto a screen. The light value read by the sensors were converted to musical pitches allowing me to l=play the images as if they were musical instruments. It was one of my earliest experiments with mapping sound to visual spaces.
